Since debuting in 2009, Wayward Sisters has received praise from audiences and critics across the United States. In 2011, the ensemble won the prestigious Early Music America/Naxos recording competition for emerging artists, and recorded their debut CD with Naxos during the 2011-2012 season.
Madness can rocket us from bliss to anguish and back, and so can music. From the frenzied stamping of the folia, a dance in which young women succumbed to wild “folly,” to the heartbroken howls of operatic heroines, madness set to music can terrify, stir, and delight. Soprano Kathryn Mueller, praised as “a star in the making” by the Albuquerque Journal, joins Wayward Sisters for a dervish whirl through music by Vivaldi, Handel, Purcell, and more.
